The Timmermans family moved from the BC coast to Grindrod in 2018 and inherited an established haskap planting from the previous owner. They had never heard of haskaps at the time.
They now farm about two acres of haskaps organically and without machinery, certified through the North Okanagan Organic Association. Alicia makes value-added products from the fruit, including jam, chutney, preserves and a barbecue sauce.
Haskaps by the basket are what reach the shop. The season is short, roughly a few weeks in early summer, and the berries taste something like a blueberry crossed with a raspberry.
