Blossom River Organics is a certified organic fruit farm on McCurdy Avenue in Cawston, in BC's Similkameen Valley. The Gill family runs it. They grow organic apples and cherries, and turn some of that fruit into apple chips and juice.
From Punjab to Cawston
The Gill family's farming roots are in Punjab, India. The grandparents came to Canada in 1980 and worked on blueberry farms in the Fraser Valley. In 1986 they moved to Oliver in the South Okanagan.
The family started the Cawston organic farm in 2008. Four generations now live and work on it.
How they farm
The orchard is certified organic through PACS. The Gills grow without synthetic pesticides. Every row is on drip irrigation, which puts water at the roots and wastes less of it.
The family believes you should know where your food comes from and how it was grown. Their aim is clean, lightly processed food that comes straight from their own farm.
More than fresh fruit
Blossom River cherries and apples are sold in grocery stores across Western Canada. The farm also washes, sorts, packs, and ships organic fruit for other growers.
Its newest products are organic apple chips and fruit juices. The chips come in 70 g bags, made from BC apples with no preservatives or artificial flavours.
What we carry
Organic apples come to Nature Delivered from this farm, Fuji among them. They store well, so they stay crisp through fall and winter.
