Green Lion Farms is a family-run farm in Armstrong, owned and operated by Mark and Lesley van Deursen.
They grow leafy greens, lettuce, herbs and microgreens year round in an indoor hydroponic vertical farm, using automated climate-controlled systems. Unused water is recycled back into the system.
Living lettuce is what the shop carries from them, and because it is grown indoors it is one of the few local greens available right through the winter. The greens are grown chemical-free. In the farm's own words, a hydroponic system cannot be considered for organic certification, so the farm is not certified.
