Green Lion Farms is a family-run farm on Hullcar Road in Armstrong, owned and operated by Mark and Lesley van Deursen.
They grow leafy greens and microgreens indoors, in automated growing chambers where the environment is fully controlled. The result is fresh, full-flavoured greens every month of the year.
The system gives the plants only the water they need and recycles the rest back into the system. That uses far less water than conventional farming. The chambers also grow more food per square foot, on a much smaller piece of land.
Their greens are grown chemical-free. A hydroponic farm cannot be certified organic, so the farm is not certified.
