Keenan Family Farms is a family farm on Yankee Flats Road in Silver Creek, near Salmon Arm. James and Chelsea Keenan run it with their six children. They raise free-range laying hens and pasture-raised pork.
From the suburbs to the farm
In 2017 the Keenans left city life in the Lower Mainland for a 35-acre property in the Shuswap. They had four children at the time and no farming experience. They learned everything together and built the farm from scratch.
When they arrived, they met with local families and farmers and learned the area needed more local food. So they started out selling chicken and pork. That first risk has grown into their life's work, and today they are a family of eight.
How they farm
The hens are free range and eat a non-GMO diet that is free of both corn and soy. The pigs are raised on pasture with no added hormones or antibiotics, on the same corn-free, soy-free, non-GMO feed.
The farm is not certified organic. It has been Animal Welfare Approved by A Greener World since 2019. The Keenans also earned an expansion quota through BC Egg's New Producer Program.
Eggs, pork, and noodles
The Keenans also own Black Forest Noodle Company. Its homestyle egg noodles use fresh eggs from the farm and only three natural ingredients, and come in four varieties.
What we carry
Keenan Farms free-range eggs are a weekly staple at Nature Delivered, not a seasonal item. They come in cartons of 12 medium brown eggs.
