Wild Flight Farm is a certified organic vegetable farm on Rosemond Lake Road in Mara, along the Shuswap River. Helen and Juan run it with their two kids. They grow organic vegetables for their own family, for the local community, and for customers as far away as Vancouver.
Vegetables nobody else has in winter
Wild Flight's specialty is crops that are hard to find once winter sets in. The farm heads into the cold months with fresh greens:
- Claytonia, a tender green also called miner's lettuce
- Corn salad, a mild, soft leaf also called mâche
- Kale
Then the cooling units take over. The farm stores its root crops and cabbages through the winter, so they stay crisp for months after harvest:
- Beets
- Golden turnips
- Purple top turnips
- Rutabaga
- Watermelon radish
- Purple and green kohlrabi
- Red and green cabbage
