Great For

Fresh eating, lunchboxes, cheese boards, salads, apple crisps, muffins and baking.

Aurora apples are particularly lovely sliced fresh with cheese or added to a salad with greens, walnuts and a tangy vinaigrette. Their natural sweetness also makes them a great choice for homemade applesauce.

Storage

Store apples in the refrigerator's crisper drawer to maintain their crisp texture and juiciness.

Apples release ethylene gas, which can encourage some other fruits and vegetables to ripen faster, so it's best to keep them separate from delicate produce when possible.

Build Your Basket

Pair with local cheddar and crackers for an easy snack, or add cabbage and carrots for a crunchy apple slaw.

For a simple dessert, grab oats, butter and cinnamon for an apple crisp.

Good to Know

Aurora Golden Gala was developed right here in Summerland, BC!

This apple was bred through Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's apple breeding program as a cross between Splendour and Gala. This apples is NOT genetically modified (GMO).

The result is a beautiful golden apple with a sweet, aromatic flavour and crisp, juicy texture.

Despite its golden appearance, Aurora isn't simply a yellow version of Gala—it's a distinct apple variety with its own flavour and characteristics.

How to Stretch This

If your apples are starting to soften, don't let them go to waste.

Chop them into oatmeal, bake them into muffins or apple crisp, or simmer them into homemade applesauce. Because Aurora apples are naturally sweet, you may find you don't need much added sugar when cooking with them.

And there's usually no need to peel them—the thin skin is perfectly edible and adds fibre.
