Certified Organic Caraflex Cabbage — aprox 2lbs

It may look a little unusual, but Caraflex is one of the most delicious cabbages of the season. These pointy green cabbages are Certified Organic and grown just down the road from us at Mara Valley Produce in Grindrod, BC.

Unlike the dense storage cabbages we rely on through the winter, Caraflex has tender leaves, a sweet mild flavour and a wonderful fresh crunch. It's particularly good raw, but the tender leaves also cook quickly and beautifully.

Why You’ll Love It

  • Certified Organic

  • Grown locally in Grindrod, BC

  • Tender, crisp leaves

  • Mild, naturally sweet flavour

  • Delicious raw or cooked

  • A special cabbage that's only available for a short time

Great For

Slaws, salads, tacos, wraps, stir-fries, fried rice, grilling, roasting and quick sautés.

For a really simple slaw, finely slice Caraflex with carrots and toss with your favourite vinaigrette or creamy dressing. Because the leaves are already tender, there's no need to spend ages massaging or softening the cabbage first.

Storage

Store refrigerated in your crisper drawer, ideally in a loose bag or container to prevent it from drying out.

Caraflex is a tender fresh-market cabbage rather than a long-keeping storage variety, so enjoy it while it's crisp and fresh rather than trying to keep it for months.

Build Your Basket

Add carrots and green onions for an easy slaw, or grab peppers, garlic and other seasonal vegetables for a quick stir-fry.

Good to Know

That pointy shape isn't a sign that something went funny in the field! Caraflex naturally grows into a distinctive cone-shaped head.

It's sometimes called a pointed or conehead cabbage and is prized for its tender texture. Compared with traditional storage cabbage, the leaves are softer and more delicate, making Caraflex an especially good choice for people who find regular raw cabbage a little too tough.

How to Stretch This

Use the tender inner leaves for salads, slaws and tacos first, then save the sturdier outer leaves for stir-fries, soups or fried rice.

And don't throw away the core. Thinly sliced or finely chopped, it's perfectly edible and adds a nice sweet crunch to slaw or stir-fries.
