- Hydroponically grown in Vernon, BC
- Fragrant, earthy and savoury
- A little goes a long way
- Particularly good with squash and root vegetables
- Convenient 30 g clamshell
Great For
Butternut squash, pumpkin, potatoes, poultry, pork, stuffing, pasta, soups, beans, browned butter sauces and roasted vegetables.
One of the simplest ways to use it is brown butter and sage: gently cook a few whole sage leaves in butter until the butter becomes golden and nutty, then spoon it over squash, pasta, gnocchi or roasted vegetables.
Storage
Keep fresh sage refrigerated. Loosely wrap the leaves in a slightly damp paper towel and store them in a bag or container to help prevent them from drying out.
Build Your Basket
Add butternut squash and garlic for an easy roasted side, or pair with potatoes and onions for a cozy fall dinner.
Good to Know
Fresh sage is quite different from the finely ground dried sage you may associate with holiday stuffing. Fresh leaves have a more complex, aromatic flavour, and cooking helps mellow their intensity.
The leaves are sturdy enough to handle roasting and sautéing, and they can even be fried whole until crisp for a surprisingly delicious garnish.
How to Stretch This
Sage dries very well, so don't worry if a recipe only calls for a few leaves. Air-dry the extras and store the dried leaves in a jar for future soups, stuffing and roasted vegetables.
You can also finely chop fresh sage into softened butter and freeze it in small portions—especially handy when squash season arrives.
