Certified Organic Bosc Pears

Pears are, we think, a seriously underrated fruit. These Certified Organic Bosc pears are grown by Claremont Ranch Organics in Lake Country, BC.

Bosc pears are sweet and aromatic with a firmer, slightly denser texture than many other pears. They're delicious eaten fresh once ripe, but that firmer flesh also makes them particularly good for baking, poaching and roasting because they hold their shape beautifully.

Why You’ll Love Them

  • Certified Organic

  • Grown in Lake Country, BC

  • Sweet, aromatic flavour

  • Firm, tender flesh when ripe

  • Excellent for fresh eating or cooking

  • Holds its shape beautifully when baked or poached

Great For

Fresh eating, cheese boards, salads, baking, poaching, roasting, crisps and desserts.

For something a little different, halve your pears and roast or gently sauté them with honey, then serve with a good cheese or spoon them warm over vanilla ice cream. Yum.

Ripening & Storage

These pears will need approximately a week at room temperature to finish ripening.

Bosc pears don't dramatically change colour when they're ripe, so check the neck beside the stem instead. When it gives slightly to gentle pressure, your pear is ready to eat.

Want to speed things up? Put your pears in a paper bag with a ripe banana or apple. These fruits release ethylene gas, which helps encourage the pears to ripen.

Once ripe, move them to the refrigerator to slow things down and give yourself more time to enjoy them.

Build Your Basket

Add local cheese, crackers and honey for an easy snack or dessert, or pair with greens and nuts for a simple fall salad.

Good to Know

Unlike many fruits, pears are actually best harvested before they're fully ripe. They finish ripening off the tree, developing their sweet flavour and tender texture after harvest.

That's why receiving firm pears isn't a bad thing—it means you get to ripen them at home and eat them right when they're ready.

How to Stretch This

If several pears ripen at once, don't panic. Bosc pears are fantastic cooked.

Bake or poach them, chop them into muffins or oatmeal, make a pear crisp, or simmer very ripe pears into sauce. You can also slice and freeze ripe pears for future baking.
