BC-Grown Mixed Hot Peppers — 1 lb

For the people who believe dinner could always use a little more heat. 🌶️

Each 1 lb mixed bag of BC-grown hot peppers includes a changing assortment of what's available, such as jalapeños, Hungarian hot wax, cayenne and other seasonal hot pepper varieties.

Expect a mix of colours, shapes, flavours and heat levels—from peppers with a gentle kick to ones you'll want to approach with a little more caution. The exact combination changes depending on what's coming out of the fields.

Why You’ll Love Them

  • Grown in BC

  • A changing mix of seasonal hot pepper varieties

  • Approximately 1 lb

  • Different flavours and levels of heat in one bag

  • Great for cooking, pickling and preserving

  • An easy way to stock up during BC pepper season

Great For

Salsa, hot sauce, chili, curries, tacos, stir-fries, marinades, pickled peppers, pepper jelly and adding heat to soups, sauces and just about anything else you're cooking.

What's in the Mix?

The assortment will change with availability and may include:

🌶️ Jalapeño — fresh, slightly grassy flavour with moderate heat
🌶️ Hungarian Hot Wax — tangy, fruity and generally hotter than a jalapeño
🌶️ Cayenne — slender peppers with considerably more heat, excellent for sauces and drying
🌶️ Plus whatever else we can find!

Because this is a mixed seasonal product, we can't guarantee particular varieties or quantities of each pepper in your bag.

A Note About the Heat

Even peppers of the same variety can vary in heat, so consider this bag a bit of an adventure.

If you're unsure about a pepper, taste a very small amount before adding it enthusiastically to dinner. When working with hotter varieties, consider wearing gloves and avoid touching your eyes or face.

Storage

Keep fresh peppers refrigerated in the crisper drawer and dry until you're ready to use them.

Build Your Basket

Add tomatoes, onions, garlic and cilantro for salsa or hot sauce, or grab cabbage and carrots and turn some of your peppers into a spicy slaw or batch of pickled vegetables.

How to Stretch This

A pound of hot peppers can go a long way, and thankfully they're easy to preserve.

Freeze them: Wash, dry and freeze whole or chopped. Pull out what you need for cooked dishes throughout the winter.

Pickle them: Slice a mixture into a jar with vinegar brine for an easy fridge condiment.

Dry them: Many thinner-walled varieties, particularly cayenne, are excellent dried and turned into homemade chile flakes or powder.

Make hot sauce: Mixing several pepper varieties can give homemade hot sauce much more interesting flavour than heat alone.
