Certified Organic Rutabaga
Rutabaga might be one of the most overlooked vegetables in the produce aisle. Think of it somewhere between a turnip and a potato—slightly sweet and earthy, with firm golden flesh that becomes tender and mellow when cooked.
These Certified Organic rutabagas are grown by Song Hollow Farm in Grindrod, BC and are a fantastic local storage vegetable for roasting, mashing, soups and hearty cool-weather meals.

Great For
Roasting, mashing, soups, stews, curries, gratins, fries and root vegetable dishes.
You can also eat rutabaga raw. Slice it thinly or cut it into matchsticks for slaws and salads—it has a crisp texture and a mildly sweet, slightly peppery flavour.
Storage
Store rutabaga refrigerated in your crisper drawer, ideally in a bag or container to prevent it from drying out.
Rutabagas are excellent storage vegetables and will keep well when properly stored.
Build Your Basket
Pair with carrots, potatoes and onions for a tray of roasted roots, or add beef and onions for a hearty fall or winter stew.
Rutabaga is also particularly good with butter, cream, thyme, rosemary and warming curry spices.
Good to Know
Rutabaga and turnip aren't quite the same thing.
Rutabagas are generally larger, sweeter and more golden inside than turnips. Once cooked, their texture becomes tender and a little potato-like, but with a richer, slightly sweet flavour of their own.

How to Stretch This
Try half rutabaga and half potato in your next batch of mashed potatoes. You still get the familiar creamy mash, with a little extra sweetness and another local vegetable worked into dinner.
Leftover roasted rutabaga is great in breakfast hash, soup, curry or reheated alongside tomorrow's dinner.
