Juicy conventional cherries grown in Kelowna, BC. Their arrival is one of the clearest signs that Okanagan tree-fruit season is underway.

Great For

Eating fresh, packing into lunches, fruit salads, crisps, sauces and summer desserts.

Build Your Basket

Pair cherries with peaches, nectarines or blueberries for a seasonal fruit bowl, or add local yogurt for an easy breakfast or dessert.

Storage

Keep cherries refrigerated, dry and with their stems attached until you are ready to eat them. Wash just before serving.

Good to Know

Cherries freeze well once pitted. Freeze them on a tray first, then store them in a freezer container for baking and smoothies.

From Emily

These cherries come from my friend Kamal and her family's orchard. Kamal and I met on our first day of orientation at UVic more than 20 years ago. We never would have imagined then that we would both eventually become farmers in the Okanagan, but through very different paths, that is exactly where we ended up.

Cherries are especially sentimental for me. My grandma canned them whole, and whenever I visited the Okanagan we ate them with vanilla ice cream—even in the depths of winter. Her cherries inspired me to start preserving local food when I still lived in Vancouver. I do not have nearly as much time for canning now that I am farming, but every few years I still make a batch of Grandma's cherries to savour through the winter.
