Certified Organic Watermelon — Song Hollow Farm

Nothing says late summer quite like cracking open a locally grown watermelon. These Certified Organic watermelons are grown by Song Hollow Farm and come in two varieties: classic red flesh or beautiful orange flesh.

Both are crisp, juicy and refreshingly sweet, but it's fun to try them side by side. Choose your favourite—or let watermelon season be your excuse to try both.

The size of these watermelons is between 4 and 5 lbs

Choose your variety:

  • Red Flesh

  • Orange Flesh

Why You’ll Love It

  • Certified Organic

  • Grown by Song Hollow Farm

  • Choose red or orange flesh

  • Sweet, crisp and incredibly juicy

  • A special, short-season local treat

  • An easy crowd-pleaser for hot summer days

Great For

Cold wedges straight from the fridge, picnics, BBQs, fruit salads and after-school snacks. Watermelon is also surprisingly delicious in savoury salads—try it with cucumber, feta, fresh herbs and a squeeze of lime.

Storage

Keep a whole, uncut watermelon in a cool place or refrigerate it if you have room. Once cut, cover and refrigerate and enjoy within several days for the best texture.

Build Your Basket

Pair with cucumber and fresh herbs for a refreshing summer salad, or add other local melons and seasonal fruit for an easy fruit platter.

Good to Know

Orange watermelon isn't an underripe red watermelon! It's naturally orange-fleshed, with its colour determined by the pigments produced by the variety. Both colours can be beautifully sweet and ripe—they're simply different kinds of watermelon.

How to Stretch This

Have more watermelon than your family can finish? Cut the flesh into cubes and freeze it. Frozen watermelon is excellent blended into smoothies, slushies or a simple summer drink with lime.

And don't forget the rind: watermelon rind is edible. The firm white portion can be pickled into a crunchy, sweet-and-sour condiment instead of heading straight to the compost.
