Slicer tomatoes have a great balance of juicy flesh, sweetness and acidity. Unlike meatier Roma tomatoes, they're grown for that classic fresh-tomato experience: big slices, plenty of juice and full summer tomato flavour.

Great For

BLTs and sandwiches, burgers, tomato toast, salads, wraps and fresh salsa. They're also excellent chopped into pasta, grain bowls or anything else that could use a juicy hit of fresh tomato.

For one of the simplest—and best—ways to eat them, slice generously and add a little salt. Give them a few minutes before eating; the salt draws out some of the tomato's juices and makes that beautiful summer flavour even more noticeable.

How to Stretch This

Very ripe tomatoes aren't past their prime—they're often at their best for cooking. Chop them into pasta sauce, simmer them into soup, roast them, make salsa, or freeze them for another day.

You can freeze ripe tomatoes whole in a freezer bag with no blanching or peeling required. Once thawed, the skins slip off easily, making them perfect for future soups and sauces.

Storage

Keep tomatoes at room temperature and out of direct sunlight for the best flavour and texture. If they're becoming very ripe before you can use them, refrigerate them to buy yourself a little more time, then bring them toward room temperature before eating.
