Certified Organic Irish Queen Potatoes

This is Owen's favourite potato, which is saying something.

Owen was born and raised in Ireland and lives up to pretty much every stereotype about Irish people and their love of potatoes. So when he says Irish Queen is his favourite variety, it carries some weight.

We're now growing this old Irish potato variety right here on our Certified Organic farm in Grindrod. Irish Queens have light-coloured flesh, classic potato flavour and the kind of texture that makes a simple boiled potato with butter and salt feel like a perfectly respectable dinner.

Why You’ll Love Them

  • Certified Organic

  • Grown on our farm in Grindrod, BC

  • Owen's favourite potato variety

  • An old Irish heritage variety

  • Classic potato flavour

  • Versatile for everyday cooking

  • Good keeping qualities

Great For

Boiling, roasting, mashing, soups, stews, breakfast potatoes and hearty fall and winter dinners.

But if you ask Owen? Boil them and add butter and salt. A good potato doesn't need much else.

Storage

Store potatoes in a cool, dark, dry and well-ventilated place, away from direct sunlight.

Keep them separate from onions and don't wash them until you're ready to cook. Irish Queen has historically been known as a good-keeping variety when stored properly.

Build Your Basket

Add carrots, onions and cabbage for an easy fall dinner, or grab some local eggs and turn leftover potatoes into a breakfast hash the next morning.

Good to Know

Irish Queen is a genuinely old Irish potato variety, with records of it being grown in Ireland going back to the early 1900s.

Different potato varieties really do have their own flavours, textures and cooking qualities—which is part of why we enjoy growing more than one. And in our house, this particular variety has a very loyal Irish fan.

From Emily

I married an Irishman who takes potatoes very seriously.

Owen was born and raised in Ireland, and his enthusiasm for potatoes does absolutely nothing to dispel the stereotypes. Of all the varieties we've grown over the years, Irish Queen is his most favourite.

So naturally, we're growing an Irish potato in Grindrod, BC. Some things apparently follow you across an ocean.

How to Stretch This

Cook a few more than you need for dinner and refrigerate the extras. Cold cooked potatoes are perfect for frying into breakfast potatoes, adding to soups, turning into potato salad or smashing and roasting until crisp.
